Vin Diesel Talks Search For ‘Furious 8’ Director, Says Series Will Close With “One Last Trilogy”

Furious 7Universal has "Furious 8" on deck for 2017, but there’s one problem: they need a director. James Wan has decided to make "The Conjuring 2" instead, Jaume Collet-Serra is busy, and complicating matters (sort of) is Vin Diesel, who has to be consulted on the eventual filmmaker, thanks to his producer status (though he doesn’t get veto power). The actor recently addressed the chatter regarding the director search for "Furious 8" on Facebook saying he wants to do the series justice.

"My producing partner Neal [Mortiz] would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled," Diesel wrote. He also reveals there will be three more movies before the frantic gear-shifting franchise is finally put to rest.

"Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision… they have been like family… I promised the studio I would deliver one last trilogy to end the saga," he revealed. So, I guess that means things will end with "Furious 10"? If so, I really hope they called it "Fur10us."

At any rate, Vin cares, as well he should because this is his big meal ticket. As for the franchise ending after the tenth movie? Maybe it will for Vin Diesel, but you can bet Universal is already pondering ways to pass the brake fluid on to another generation.
