Warner Bros. is probably glad this week is coming to an end. Their "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice" tease and setup for Monday’s IMAX event was ruined by the leak of the entire trailer. Then there’s "Wonder Woman," which lost director Michelle MacLaren, and while she was quickly replaced by "Monster" helmer Patty Jenkins, everyone is wondering what happened.
It was suggested that MacLaren’s idea to give Wonder Woman a talking tiger sidekick might’ve been part of the "creative differences" that split the studio and filmmaker, but Variety has a bit more intel. According to their sources, MacLaren wanted to make a "Braveheart"-esque action picture, while the studio wanted something more character-driven. Perhaps more crucially, the studio was concerned about MacLaren’s experience handling a big action movie, even though she has fare like "Game Of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead" on her resume.

The process of landing on a story was particularly involved, with up to five writers working on various drafts, and apparently MacLaren didn’t take to it well (and her story didn’t test well either, reportedly). But it seems thing are finally coalescing into a direction. Jenkins will helm a less action heavy variation of the movie, and testing will begin soon for the male lead and love interest, with everything still on track for a 2017 release date. Can "Wonder Woman" overcome the bumps in the road so far? Still plenty of time for Warner and company to get things smoothed out.
