‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ Trailer: Director Drew Goddard Traps Chris Hemsworth & 6 Strangers On One Fateful Night

It’s time to check-in, but be on your toes because you’re not ready for what the night has in store. Drew Goddard is back, but this time with a 1960’s crime-noir “Bad Times at the El Royale,” which he has set up in a similar fashion to “Cabin in the Woods.” This time, however, instead of five college friends spending a little vacation time at a remote forest cabin not expecting the horrors that await them, we have seven strangers, who all seem very willing to deceive others for the secrets they’re trying to keep.

The film and The El Royale hotel, are interesting, to say the least, Goddard has revealed that it straddles the Nevada/California border, meaning that gambling is legal on one side, while drinking is legal on the other. The characters, which according to the first trailer, are being watched, and the film takes place over the course of one night as secrets come to light and the guests’ real intentions and secrets are revealed.

In an interview with EW, Goddard referred to the film as “a love letter” to crime fiction and film noir. “I’m just a fan of the genre, so I don’t overthink it,” he said. “I just trust in my love of crime fiction and let that seep in.”

“Bad Times at the El Royale” will be the second collaboration between Goodard and Chris Hemsworth, who worked together on “Cabin in the Woods.” Starring alongside Hemsworth is Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman, Lewis Pullman, and Cailee Spaeny.

The complete synopsis and trailer can be found below:
