In an age where theaters are being dominated by superhero films and franchise sequels, reboots, and revivals, there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of room in Hollywood for your typical, run-of-the-mill, charming rom-com anymore. Well, that’s where films like “Can You Keep A Secret?” come in.
As seen in the first trailer for the film, “Can You Keep A Secret?” is based on the novel by “Confessions of a Shopaholic” author Sophie Kinsella and tells the story of a man and woman that have their “meet cute” on an airplane where the woman drunkenly spills her guts to the male stranger during a bit of turbulence. And as is rom-com tradition, these two find their paths crossing later when the man becomes the boss at the now-embarrassed woman’s job. From there, secrets are kept, some are expressed, and lots of awkward conversations occur. You know, exactly what you expect from a film like this.
Of course, we’re not poking fun at the film or the genre, just pointing out that if you’re a fan of rom-coms and charming actors, then “Can You Keep A Secret?” looks to be the type of movie you’d be excited to see.
The film stars Alexandra Daddario, Tyler Hoechlin, Sunita Mani, Kimiko Glenn, and Laverne Cox. “Can You Keep A Secret?” is directed by Elise Duran, who is probably best known for her various TV directing jobs, as well as being a producer on numerous reality series.
“Can You Keep A Secret?” arrives in select theaters and VOD on September 13.

Based on the best-selling novel by Sophie Kinsella, CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET? tells the story of New York City marketing manager Emma (Alexandra Daddario), who is stuck in a rut in her professional and romantic life. On her flight home from a botched client meeting, the plane hits turbulence and Emma confesses all of her secrets to the stranger sitting next to her…at least she thought he was a stranger, until she later meets Jack (Tyler Hoechlin), her company’s handsome CEO, who now knows every humiliating detail about her. Suddenly, Emma’s life is hilariously and embarrassingly turned upside down as she navigates whether telling the truth is the answer to finding love.
