‘Bad Boys For Life’ Trailer: Will Smith & Martin Lawrence Attempt To Revive Their Action Franchise

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are sludging through interesting points in their careers. Smith, who made his living on lone wolf or dueled action movies like “I Am Legend,” “Men in Black,” “I, Robot,” and more recently “Focus,” has been staying relevant through his Instagram page of more than 39 million followers and his YouTube vlogs. His film career has been a bit uneven though, with critical bombs such as “Bright” and “Gemini Man” taking center stage. Lawrence has been completely out of the spotlight, appearing in nothing but “The Beach Bum” since 2015. Perennial bad boys turned old men Smith and Lawrence are teaming up once again as a certain career revival for their new film “Bad Boys for Life.”

Next year will mark 25 years since the original “Bad Boys” came out in theaters, a huge commercial success and turning the duo into stars to be reckoned with. Their easy banter combined with Michael Bay’s affinity for over-the-top stunts and his patented Bayhem was a winner at the box office, even though critics might not have felt the same.

Neither star has ever been in the business of pleasing critics. Rotten Tomatoes shouldn’t be the highest barometer, but Lawrence hasn’t had a “non-rotten” film since 1990’s “House Party” while Smith hasn’t had a tomato next to his movie since “Men in Black III” in 2012. These two actors thrive because they’re relatable, easy-going, and audience-first. They aim to please, and they’re both hoping that “Bad Boys for Life” will lead them back to the promised land.

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, “Bad Boys for Life” stars Smith, Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Kate del Castillo, and Alexander Ludwig and is scheduled to be released on January 17, 2020.
