Criterion Announces ‘The Complete Kubrick,’ A Massive 30-Disc 4K Box Set Collecting Stanley Kubrick’s Entire Filmography; Watch The Trailer

Criterion’s thirty-disc 4K UHD + Blu-ray collector’s set includes thirteen features, three shorts, original soundtracks, restored 5.1 mixes, rare archival material, new commentaries, and more than twenty-five hours of special features.

Criterion has announced “The Complete Kubrick,” an unprecedented 30-disc 4K UHD + Blu-ray collector’s set that brings together the maestro, Stanley Kubrick’s entire directorial output for the first time. The collection, which features thirteen features and three shorts restored in 4K, arrives October 20, 2026, and is available to pre-order now. An accompanying trailer has also been released, and boy, the entire thing is a cinephile’s wet dream.

The massive set spans Kubrick’s complete finished filmography, including “Day of the Fight” in both its original and RKO versions, “Flying Padre,” “Fear and Desire,” “The Seafarers,” “Killer’s Kiss,” “The Killing,” “Paths of Glory,” “Spartacus,” “Lolita,” “Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb,” “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “Barry Lyndon,” “The Shining” in both its theatrical and international versions, “Full Metal Jacket,” and “Eyes Wide Shut.”

That alone makes the announcement one of Criterion’s biggest physical media swings in years, but the scope of the package goes well beyond the films themselves. The release also includes Kubrick’s original soundtracks alongside restored and remastered 5.1 mixes, more than twenty-five hours of interviews, documentaries, and behind-the-scenes materials, and deluxe packaging illustrated with rare photographs, artwork, and documents annotated by Kubrick himself. The entire collection is housed in a box inspired by the director’s legendary archive.

“The Complete Kubrick took two years to achieve, but as Kubrick fans know, one’s relationship with his films never truly ends,” Michael Chaiken, Criterion producer, said in a statement. “It was an honor to be asked to produce this set and an enormous responsibility: to the fans, to the Kubrick estate, and ultimately to Kubrick himself, whose commitment to the presentation of his work remained constant throughout his life.”

Chaiken added that Criterion consulted Kubrick’s closest collaborators, archival experts, and the studios that have stewarded his films “across generations,” to ensure that the films “look and sound better than they ever have on home video.”

Among the set’s highlights are Kubrick’s international version of “The Shining,” a new 4K restoration of Vivian Kubrick’s behind-the-scenes documentary “Making ‘The Shining’,” newly recorded commentary tracks with filmmaker Lee Unkrich and author Michael Benson, rare films from Graphic Films and computer-animation pioneer John Whitney that inspired the special effects in “2001: A Space Odyssey,” unseen “Lolita” screen tests with James Mason and Sue Lyon, and rare “Full Metal Jacket” behind-the-scenes footage.

The set will also feature a newly recorded conversation with novelist Jonathan Lethem and film historian Kevin Wynter on Kubrick and authorship, as well as an essay by author and critic Nathaniel Rich.

Criterion is also emphasizing the package’s archival nature. Kubrick was famously meticulous about preserving his own materials, including photographs, correspondence, research, production documents, scripts, notes, and other ephemera, much of it organized in boxes he designed himself. That archive directly inspired the design of “The Complete Kubrick,” positioning the set not only as a home-video release but as an object meant to be explored and studied.

In addition to the box set, Criterion will release a limited collection of Kubrick-inspired merchandise, with further details expected in the coming months. The company will also launch a dedicated Kubrick playlist on its YouTube channel, featuring material about his films, collaborators, creative process, legacy, and the making of “The Complete Kubrick.”
