‘Two Popes’ Exclusive Featurettes: Take A Peek At The Incredible Set Design & Cinematography In Netflix’s Awards Contender

Honestly, do you need any other reason to watch Netflix’s new film “The Two Popes” other than to know that it stars Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce? Those two names alone should be plenty to get a film fan’s interest piqued. However, not only do those men turn in great performances as the titular Catholic figures, but as seen in two new featurettes, “The Two Popes” is a truly beautiful film that gives the two legendary actors beautiful scenes to accentuate their banter.

With “The Two Popes” now streaming on Netflix, we’re happy to share two exclusive featurettes about the making of the acclaimed drama that is getting plenty of awards season buzz. The first video focuses on the work done by production designer Mark Tildesley, who painstakingly recreated the Sistine Chapel (full scale) at Rome’s Cinecitta Studios in just 10 weeks. In addition to “The Two Popes,” Tildesley previously worked on films such as “Phantom Thread” and “Snowden,” as well as with director Fernando Meirelles on the film “The Constant Gardener.” The second behind-the-scenes video focuses on the incredible work of cinematographer César Charlone.

In our review, we said, “Somehow the filmmakers found lightheartedness and – gasp – laughs in a story of political intrigue at the top of the notoriously buttoned-up Catholic Church. Levity during a moment in history that foreshadows the current crisis the modern world finds itself in. Clearly, miracles, even cinematic ones, never cease.”
