Rachel Brosnahan’s ‘I’m Your Woman’ To Kick Off The All-Digital 2020 AFI Film Festival

Fall Film Festival Season is in full swing. Well, sort of. Venice kicked off the festivities with a mixture of in-person screenings and digital presentations, while TIFF is continuing that trend currently. And in October, the AFI Film Festival is set to begin, with its 34th edition being completely online. Though it won’t have in-person screenings, it does appear that the festivities are kicking off with quite a bang, as the film “I’m Your Woman,” starring Rachel Brosnahan, is set as the Opening Night feature.

“I’m Your Woman” stars Brosnahan as a 1970s suburban housewife, Jean, that is caught up in the world of crime after her husband, who is a thief, betrays his partners, forcing the duo to go on the run. Afterward, Jean begins a friendship with Teri, who then joins the housewife as they go on a journey through the criminal underworld. “I’m Your Woman” is directed by Julia Hart, who co-wrote the feature alongside Jordan Horowitz.

“Now more than ever it is important for film festivals to create a platform for audiences to discover great films,” said Michael Lumpkin, Director of AFI Festivals, “and ‘I’m Your Woman’ is cinematic storytelling at its best. With a captivating and complex narrative of a woman on the run, director and writer Julia Hart takes us on an unexpected journey that speaks directly to the current state of our world and the real meaning of friendship, love, and family.”

This year’s AFI Film Festival is expected to begin online on October 15.

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Suburban housewife Jean (Rachel Brosnahan) lives a seemingly easy life, supported by husband Eddie’s (Bill Heck) career as a thief. But when Eddie betrays his partners, Jean and her baby are forced to go on the run, and Eddie’s old friend Cal (Arinzé Kene) is tasked with the job of keeping them safe. After Cal mysteriously disappears, Jean befriends Teri (Marsha Stephanie Blake), and the two women set out on a perilous journey into the heart of Eddie’s criminal underworld. A decidedly female take on crime dramas of the 1970s, I’M YOUR WOMAN is a tale of love, betrayal, motherhood, family and what it takes to claim your life as your own.
