‘Final Account’ Trailer: The Last Living Generation Of Germans Who Participated In The Third Reich Speak Out

There have been countless documentaries and TV specials about World War II and the rise of the Nazis during that era. We’ve seen archival footage, interviews with soldiers, discussions with Holocaust survivors, and just hours upon hours of historians giving the facts that led to one of the worst times in human history. But in the new documentary, “Final Account,” we are shown interviews with the last living generation of people that participated in the Third Reich.

As seen in the trailer for “Final Account,” the film tells the story of the young folks that lived in Germany during the Third Reich and actively participated in Adolf Hitler’s plan. Now approaching the end of their lives, this group of people has to come to terms with their complicity and participation in one of the worst atrocities ever seen. As you might expect, it’s not a conversation that comes easily.

The new documentary comes from director Luke Holland. This is far from the only film Holland made about World War II and Nazi Germany. The filmmaker previously worked on documentaries including “Good Morning, Mr. Hitler” and “I Was a Slave Labourer.” Sadly, Holland passed away in 2020 before the release of “Final Account.”

“Final Account” arrives in theaters on May 21. You can watch the full trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

FINAL ACCOUNT is an urgent portrait of the last living generation of everyday people to participate in Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich. Over a decade in the making, the film raises vital, timely questions about authority, conformity, complicity and perpetration, national identity, and responsibility, as men and women ranging from former SS members to civilians in never-before-seen interviews reckon with – in very different ways – their memories, perceptions and personal appraisals of their own roles in the greatest human crimes in history.
