Got a Tip?

The Duffer Brothers Partner With Netflix For Adaptations Of ‘Death Note’ & ‘The Talisman’ As Well As A ‘Stranger Things’ Play

Even though the world seems to be obsessed (once again) with “Stranger Things,” the Duffer Brothers aren’t only focused on where the kids of Hawkins will end up in Season 5. The co-creators of the “Stranger Things” universe are already planning a spinoff series, and they also are expanding outside of Hawkins for new series based on a Stephen King novel and an anime series.

According to Netflix, the Duffer Brothers have figured out their slate of projects that they’ll be working on over the next several years as part of their massive deal with the streaming service. Of course, Season 5 of “Stranger Things” is included, as are the mystery spinoff and a newly-announced stage play (directed by Stephen Daldry, no less). Not much is known about the latter projects, but according to a recent interview on Happy. Sad. Confused. the Duffers did say they hope to “pass the baton” to another showrunner to take the reins of the spinoff series and that it’ll be “1000%” different than “Stranger Things.” Sorry, fans who were expecting an Eleven spinoff. That ain’t happening.

But if “Stranger Things” isn’t your cup of tea, the filmmakers have a number of other big projects on the way. First, there’s a TV adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s novel, “The Talisman.” That series is going to be co-produced alongside Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Paramount Television to be created by Curtis Gwinn

Next, there’s a new live-action adaptation of “Death Note.” However, unlike the Adam Wingard Netflix film adaptation, this new take on the anime series will be a live-action TV show. Even though the recent live-action film was a bit of a bomb, there is still plenty of fans of the source material who would be interested to see what the Duffer Brothers can bring to the table.

And finally, we have a new original series from creators Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (“Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”). We have no idea what this might be, but if you liked the recent reboot of “Dark Crystal,” then you’re in luck.
