Before Jonathan Majors damaged his career with domestic violence, assault, strangulation, and harassment charges, he was well on his way to mega-A-list superstardom. Just a couple of years ago, he starred in two hit mainstream films, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Creed III”. He also had the role of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s big bad Kang The Conqueror on lock – ensuring endless blockbuster appearances, fat paychecks, and exposure to a global audience of billions.
Hollywood was ready to anoint him as their next big star with entry into their most prestigious and exclusive club – that of Academy Award nominees and winners. Elijah Bynum’s “Magazine Dreams,” which premiered to critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival, was to be his meal ticket.
It had all the ingredients for a solid awards run – a raved performance coupled with a jaw-dropping physical transformation. Majors trained for 6 hours a day to achieve an IFBB Pro-level physique – one of the most impressive in Hollywood history. Our own review declared, “We initially believe he is a god”. It was all for naught, as the Academy is unlikely to touch the film with a 10-foot pole.
Besides Majors, “Magazine Dreams” stars Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige and Mike O’Hearn.
Here’s the synopsis:
Killian Maddox lives with his ailing veteran grandfather, obsessively working out between court-mandated therapy appointments and part-time shifts at a grocery store where he harbors a crush on a friendly cashier. Though Killian’s struggles to read social cues and maintain control of his volatile temper amplify his sense of disconnection amid a hostile world, nothing deters him from his fiercely protected dream of bodybuilding superstardom, not even the doctors who warn that he’s causing permanent damage to his body with his quest.
“Magazine Dreams” is currently scheduled to be released on March 21. You can watch the trailer below:
