Filmmaker Osgood Perkins has had a wonderful 2024. His most recent film, “Longlegs,” turned into an unexpected box office smash. That instantly made the filmmaker one of the most exciting horror directors working today. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long to see what he has coming next, as “The Monkey” is right around the corner.

As seen in the new teaser, “The Monkey” is based on a short story by Stephen King and tells the story of a toy monkey with some seriously messed up powers. The film tells the story of two twin brothers who come across a cursed monkey toy in their family’s attic. After witnessing deaths that seemed to pop up because of the toy, the twins decide to discard it. Years later, after being surrounded by more death, the twins have to come back together and fight the curse.
While both “The Monkey” and “Longlegs” are directed by Perkins, it’s clear the filmmaker is taking different tones with each. “The Monkey” teaser gives us a brief glimpse at the playfulness that exists in this world, which is a bit different than the bleak, horrific “Longlegs.”
The cast for this film includes Theo James, Christian Convery, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. As mentioned, the film is written and directed by Osgood Perkins. In addition to his work on “Longlegs,” he’s also the filmmaker behind “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” and “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House.”
“The Monkey” is set to arrive in theaters on February 21, 2025. You can watch the teaser below:
