‘Adolescence,’ ‘The Studio,’ & ‘The Pitt’ Top 2025 Gotham Television Awards

The second annual Gotham Television Awards were handed out in New York City Monday night, and the curated industry juries picked some very Emmy-friendly winners. Focusing on new series only, “Adolescence” was the biggest winner of the night, taking Breakthrough Limited Series, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Limited Series (Stephen Graham), and tying for Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Limited Series (Owen Cooper). Jenny Slate took the other Supporting Performance in a Limited Series win for “Dying for Sex.”

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s “The Studio” won Breakthrough Comedy Series, and Noah Wyle was on hand to receive “The Pitt’s” win for Breakthrough Drama Series. “Matlock’s” Katy Bates provided a rare network win for CBS in the Outstanding Performance in a Drama Series, while, in something of a surprise in a weirdly weak category, Julio Torres took Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series for “Fantasmas.”

Poorna Jagannathan won Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Comedy Series for “Deli Boys,” and Ben Whishaw took Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Drama Series for “Black Doves.” Both are considered longshot Emmy nominees, so these wins certainly help their cause.

Outstanding Performance in a Film went to Aaron Pierre for “Rebel Ridge.” That big Netflix hit ended up losing out to “Pee-wee As Himself” in the Outstanding Original Film, Broadcast, or Streaming category (which also includes documentaries).

Breakthrough Nonfiction Series went to “Social Studies.”

As with most Gotham Awards ceremonies, there were a number of tributes that were previously announced. “Squid Game” creator, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk with the Creator Tribute, “Dope Thief’s” Brian Tyree Henry took the Performer Tribute, David E. Kelley with the Visionary Tribute, “The Handmaid’s Tale’s” Elisabeth Moss and the rest of the current cast received the Ensemble Tribute, “Abbot Elementary” and Tony Award-winning legend Sheryl Lee Ralph received the Sidney Poitier Icon Tribute, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino also received a Creator Tribute, and “The White Lotus'” Parker Posey with the Legend Tribute even though a majority of her work has been on the big screen.
