Eight years after its first season, “The Night Manager” is back. Based on a John le Carré novel, the globe-trotting spy series was a huge hit for BBC One, winning two Emmys, three Golden Globes, and two BAFTAs. No surprise then, that BBC One and Prime Video renewed it for two more season, with Season 2 ready to premiere next January.
Tom Hiddleston returns in the new season as Jonathan Pine, whose quiet new life as a lowly MI6 officer gets upended by the sighting of an old adversary, leading him on an undercover mission into the jungles of Colombia.
Here’s an official synopsis for “The Night Manager” S2, courtesy of Prime Video:
Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston) thought he’d buried his past. Now living as Alex Goodwin – a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London – his life is comfortingly uneventful. Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva).
On this perilous new journey, Pine meets Roxana Bolaños (Camila Morrone), a businesswoman who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation. Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army. As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late.
Along with Hiddleston, “The Night Manager” S2 sees Olivia Colman also return to star as Angela Burr. New cast members this season include Diego Calva, Camila Morrone, Indira Varma, Paul Chahidi, and Hayley Squires. Other S1 roles returning include Alistair Petrie, Douglas Hodge, Michael Nardone, and Noah Jupe.
