‘Stop! That! Train!’ Trailer: RuPaul, Sarah Michele Gellar, & Lisa Rinna Tease ‘Airplane!’ Inspired Comedy

Are you ready for a drag queen movie starring RuPaul Charles that’s a legitimate, real movie? If you had any doubts before, the new trailer that just dropped for Adam Shankman’s “Stop! That! Train!” should temper those concerns because there’s no “Drag Race” green screen here (sure, there might be some blue screen for visual effects, but it’s top-tier quality at least). You can watch the cameo-filled teaser here or embedded at the bottom of this post.

The preview demonstrates that Shankman still knows how to direct big, big broad comedies. His resume is full of hits like “Hairspray,” “Bringing Down The House,” “The Pacifier,” “The Wedding Planner,” “Bedtime Stories,” and “Disenchanted.” He also knows how to craft a musical number, which makes us think there could be a surprise or two. What isn’t surprising is the long list of comedy stars taking a ride on the high-speed train.

Written by Christina Friel and Connor Wright, the official synopsis reveals our heroines are best friends Tess (Ginger Minj) and DeeDee (Jujubee), are train stewardesses who get an upgrade from the crappy Stank Rail to the glitzy Glamazonian Express. When a catastrophic “Stormaganza” threatens to derail the high-speed train and crash it into Los Angeles, the duo in coach must join forces with the snobby first-class attendants (Symone, Brooke Lynn Heights, Marcia Marcia Marcia) as well as President Gagwell (RuPaul). Featuring echoes of the 1980 comedy classic “Airplane!”, the movie also has credited supporting roles from Rachel Bloom, Lisa Rinna, Latrice Royale, and Matt Rogers.

But wait, there’s more.

The trailer reveals a non-stop list of guest stars, including Chris Parnell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Drew Droege, Natasha Leggero, Charo, Raven-Symoné, Joel McHale, Nicole Richie, Missi Pyle, June Diane Raphael, Jerry O’Connell, Evan Mulrooney, Mayan Lopez, Monet X Change, Paul Scheer, Guy Branum, and, playing herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Oh, and Michelle Visage, too.

Produced by World of Wonder, Bleeker Street is distributing in the U.S. and Canada and recently moved the release date from Memorial Day weekend to mid-June.

“Stop! That! Train!” opens nationwide on June 12
