Mel Gibson Recruits Leonardo DiCaprio For William Monahan Scribed Viking Drama

Mel Gibson, Leonardo DiCaprio and William Monahan are set to team up for an untitled period drama about Viking culture scheduled to shoot in the fall of 2010.

While details on the project are still being kept under wraps, the project is being described as “unsparing as Gibson’s other period directing efforts” and could very well be the project recently revealed to be shooting in Mexican prison next year by the town’s governor.

Producer Graham King further teases the project adding that the film “will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry’s finest cinematic talent.” King seems to be the one that brought the trio of talent together, having worked with DiCaprio and Monahan on “The Departed,” and with Gibson and Monahan on “The Edge Of Darkness.” Kudos on that one.

The untitled Viking drama will reportedly be Gibson’s next directorial effort after recently completing “The Beaver” for Jodie Foster while DiCaprio will probably find time to work on something after he wraps on Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi-actioner “Inception.”

What could that next project be for DiCaprio? It’s anyone guess at this stage and he’ll might just drop a bomb like this but DiCaprio is currently attached to a whole host of projects including an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World” with Ridley Scott; Scott’s film about the Gucci fashion empire with Angelina Jolie; an online casino film for Paramount; a tropical mystery film titled “The Deep Blue Goodbye,” an adaptation of comic “Beat The Reaper“; there’s also of course the rumor of Martin Scorsese’s Frank Sinatra biopic, but that’s probably not shooting anytime soon.
