Judd Apatow’s New Comedy ‘Trainwreck’ Sets Release During Crowded Summer Of 2015

With 2015 already set to be utterly dominated by franchises, sequels and reboots — “Insidious Chapter 3,” “Fast & Furious 7,” “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Jurassic World,” “The Fantastic Four,” “Ted 2,” “Terminator 5,” “Bourne 5,” “Hotel Transylvania 2,” “Bond 24,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2,” “Star Wars: Episode 7,” “Kung Fu Panda 3,” “Mission: Impossible 5” are all due — is there any room for something original? Universal is banking on it.

The studio has set Judd Apatow‘s next comedy “Trainwreck” for a July 24, 2015 release date, landing right right between the weekends “Batman Vs. Superman” and “Ant-Man” will be hitting theaters. It’s a ballsy movie especially considering the film is being led by untested comedienne Amy Schumer, who has no shortage of fans, but has never opened a movie on her own. But clearly, the studio is confident by time it all wraps, it’s going to be something worthy of a tentpole release.

There are no official plot details yet, but the film will reportedly center on a woman who’s a “basket case,” played by Schumer, who is trying to rebuild her life, with a boyfriend, parent and best friend all in the mix of characters she’s dealing with. Casting is currently underway, and it’s safe to say this will shoot later this year.
