Watch: The Inevitable ‘Breaking Bad’/’Need For Speed’ Mash-Up Plus 1-Hour Vince Gilligan Masterclass

null

Reader, I haven’t seen the final episode of “Breaking Bad.” I haven’t even seen the final season of “Breaking Bad”, or even the final episode of the first season of “Breaking Bad.” And though I have just willfully thrown away whatever Playlist cred I might ever have gained, I promise you this—I am working on it. I have seen most of the first season now, and I don’t know why I wasn’t watching it before..

But please excuse me, if I serve you up a chemical cocktail of “Breaking Bad” links without necessarily examining them in detail myself, lest I encounter the dreaded spoiler. So, here it goes. First up, as you may have seen on this very site, Jesse Pinkman (ok, Aaron Paul) is set to appear in the upcoming “Need For Speed,” which has inspired the folks over at Vulture to cut the two together to give Jesse new life in a new trailer. Pinkman lives! Which you shouldn’t take to imply that he died or anything, because honestly, I have no idea.

Secondly, for those of you who want to go deep into the mind of showrunner Vince Gilligan, here’s a really impressive, hour-long interview he did with the great British TV critic Charlie Brooker (who you should really start reading and watching if you don’t already) at last month’s Edinburgh International Television Festival (via Cinephile Archive). You can watch Gilligan discuss the genesis of the show and the day-to-day running of it: it’s not just interesting as a look at “Breaking Bad” but at the mind of a man who is now surely one of the most powerful people in television, and whose next steps will be closely watched. Speaking of which, I’m off to watch more “Breaking Bad.” Please, no-one talk about it til I’m done.
