“The Way, Way Back,” the much-ballyhooed coming-of-age water park comedy from Jim Rash (“Community,” the Oscar-winning script for Alexander Payne‘s “The Descendants”) and his writing and directing partner Nat Faxon, arrives the day after the 4th of July, and you had better hope your relatives have already packed up and driven back across however many states to wherever it is they spend the other 364 days of the year, because you are going to have an urgent appointment with this film.
Here we have a couple more clips, and even if they contain snippets of material that we’ve seen in other clips already, they serve to confirm two eternal truths: Jim Rash gives good nebbish, and Allison Janney gives good drunk. And with an overall tone and poster (see below) that calls out to “The Graduate,” “The Way, Way Back” hopefully has a skewed but warm heart too: though that will be riding on the somewhat untested 16-year old star Liam James. He’s in good company though, with some of the finest, funny-angle-to-the-rest-of-the-planet actors in the business backing him up including: Sam Rockwell (who these clips show to be in top form), Steve Carrell, Maya Rudolph, Toni Collette, Allison Janney and Rob Corddry.
