Serving as the gaudy, bejeweled finale to Steven Soderbergh’s film career (for now), Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra” cemented itself as one to watch from the minute the director announced it. A trailer finally dropped for the HBO production last month and blew us away, and now a new look from across the pond has offered several more reasons to get excited.
While the domestic trailer hinted at the film’s story of Liberace (Michael Douglas) and his love affair with confidante Scott Thorson (Matt Damon), the new UK trailer delves slightly deeper into the transformation of Damon’s character from naïve assistant to disillusioned lover. Both leads look perfectly at home in the film’s “palatial kitsch,” and with some new glimpses of the stellar supporting cast of Rob Lowe, Debbie Reynolds, and Dan Aykroyd, the film looks like a must-watch in a month full of them.
Catch the full trailer below, along with some new pics (via Broadway World) of actor Cheyenne Jackson, who plays Liberace’s protégée Billy Leatherwood, and catch the film when it premieres on HBO on Sunday, May 26th at 9pm. Of course, it will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival first, and for those of you in the UK, it opens on the big screen on June 7th.
