Amazon Lands Rights To Emily Blunt's Upcoming Detective Film About Kate Warne; Dwayne Johnson To Produce

Though you could say Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson are reteaming for a new film about real-life detective Kate Warne, this situation is a bit different than what we saw with “Jungle Cruise,” as Johnson is only serving as a producer. But still, the project has already caught the eye of Amazon Studios.

According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has won the bidding war for a new untitled film about the legendary detective Kate Warne. The film is produced by Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks shingle and will star Emily Blunt in the lead role. The film is said to tell the story of Kate Warne, the first woman to be hired as part of the Pinkerton Agency in the mid-1800s. Her ability as a sleuth helped pave the way for women to be represented in law enforcement.

The film is also being produced by Blunt’s Ledbury Productions and Kristina Sorensen Productions. Gustin Nash, who is best known for scripting films such as “Youth in Revolt” and “Charlie Bartlett,” is set to write the feature.

It almost goes without saying that Blunt is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Not only is she one of the leads of the aforementioned “Jungle Cruise,” but she has also starred in blockbusters such as “A Quiet Place” (and its sequel), “Mary Poppins Returns,” “Sicario,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” and “Edge of Tomorrow.” Clearly, if the Kate Warne film takes off, it does seem like the type of thing that could spawn yet another franchise for Blunt.

It’s far too early to know when we might see the film arrive from Amazon. However, with this group of talent involved, it shouldn’t be difficult to land a big director and get into production fairly quickly. We’ll just have to wait and see.
