'Angelyne' Trailer: Emmy Rossum & Martin Freeman Star In The True Story Of An Unlikely Celebrity

Unless you’re a special type of Hollywood historian, you are probably not familiar with the woman known as Angelyne. But thanks to a new series coming to the Peacock streaming service, folks will be introduced to the crazy life of the billboard star.

“Billboard” meaning real billboards that you see as you drive around town, not the music magazine that publishes popularity lists. You see, as the trailer explains, the new series “Angelyne” follows the story of a Los Angeles woman that is desperate to get famous. And with no discernible skills or reason to be a celebrity, she pays for an advertisement on a billboard in LA. What is she promoting? Well, herself, naturally.

The series stars Emmy Rossum as the title character, but with the colorful, revealing clothing and the big hair, you’d be understandably confused to know that the Golden Globe-nominated actress, best known for her work in the series “Shameless,” is the lead. She’s joined by Martin Freeman, who has been establishing himself as a bit of a TV star in recent years, thanks to roles on “Fargo” and the recently-premiered FX series, “Breeders.” The two actors are also joined by Alex Karpovsky, Jefferson Hall, Charlie Rowe, Lukas Gage, Michael Angarano, and Molly Ephraim in the cast.

“Angelyne” is showrun by Allison Miller, with all the episodes directed by Lucy Tcherniak. Miller is probably best known for her work on the series “Strange Angel,” as well as “Spartacus.” Tcherniak has helmed episodes of “Chambers,” “Wanderlust,” and “The End of the F***ing World.” “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail is on board as an executive producer.

Peacock is in the middle of a soft launch right now, available to select cable subscribers. The full streaming launch is expected in July. It’s unclear if “Angelyne” will be part of that launch lineup.
