Ava DuVernay Says Donald Trump Has "No Substance" And Is A "Mistake"

This week, David Lynch has dominated political and entertainment headlines for his comments about Donald Trump. As with many of the filmmaker’s projects, his comments about Trump’s disruption of the status quo were interpreted in various ways. Ultimately, Lynch had to come forward with a second statement, clarifying his comments and ultimately, condemning Donald Trump’s actions. You won’t have to worry about any misunderstanding with Ava DuVernay’s recent tweets about the President.

Trump took to Twitter to celebrate the election loss of veteran politician Rep. Joe Crowley, by insinuating that Crowley’s loss was due to his anti-Trump comments. However, DuVernay was quick to reply to the tweet by saying it wasn’t because of Crowley that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won. Instead, the filmmaker said, “Ignore the women of color replacing the old guard at your own peril. Three words: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”

Then, as Trump is known to do, he tweeted something about how Democrats are now “unhinged.” DuVernay, clearly not one to bite her tongue, tweeted back at the President, saying, “You have no sense of self outside of the disparagement of others. You project your weakness onto others. You are of no substance. You will go down in history as a mistake. A mistake that unified many, reminding us of the best in ourselves by being a violent example of the worst.”

Clearly, Ava DuVernay won’t find herself in the “misunderstood” camp as Lynch found himself in earlier this week. There’s no ambiguity when she says that Trump will “go down in history as a mistake.” We’ll just have to wait and see if she finds herself figuring into a Trump tweet or speech coming up.
