Aziz Ansari In No Rush To Make 'Master Of None' Season 3

With a wealth of critical accolades showered upon Aziz Ansari for “Master Of None” season two, the co-creator of Netflix‘s hit dramedy certainly has no shortage of options. In a strange way, Ansari is at a crossroads not unlike one his character Dev faces in the current season, when he’s given the opportunity to host “Clash Of The Cupcakes” for seven seasons. Undoubtedly, Ted Sarandos and the rest of the Netflix team would be more than happy to get as much “Master Of None” as possible, but Ansari has again stressed that if there’s a season three, it won’t be coming anytime soon.

At the beginning of the month, the actor/writer/director indicated that this second season may also be the last for “Master Of None,” and while he’s softened up slightly on that position, Ansari says he needs some time away to get the creative juices flowing again.

“If we didn’t do a third season, yeah, I’d feel bad that we wouldn’t get to keep going, but I also wouldn’t want to do a third season if it wasn’t as inspired as what we did,” he told Vulture. “And the reason we took a break between season one and season two was so we could make something that was really a step up. I wouldn’t want to have it be a step back and make it not as cool as exciting. I think we need some time to refill the notebook.”

“If I had my druthers — whatever druthers are — any time the notebook was filled up and me and [co-creator] Alan [Yang] felt like we had a few, we would call up Netflix, and say, ‘Okay, let’s do it,’ and make a season three a few years from now,” he added. “Then maybe we would make another one when we were, like, 60 years old. We talk about that, about creating a new season of ‘Master of None’ when we’re 70 and all the things we think about when we are 70.”

So, “Master Of None” going in the style of the “7 Up” documentary series? Maybe that’s not such a bad idea. While we’re bummed not to have more “Master Of None” in our immediate future, if it means Ansari and co. keep coming back and raising the bar each time, the wait will be worth it.
