Barbra Streisand Will Receive An Honorary Palme D’Or At The 2026 Cannes Film Festival

The lineup announcement for the 2026 Cannes Film Festival is still a few weeks away, but the festival continues to round out its special honorees. She’ll accept her Palme d’Or at the festival’s closing ceremony on Saturday, May 25.

In a statement, Streisand noted, “It is with a sense of pride and deep humility that I’m honored to join the company of past Honorary Palme d’Or recipients whose work has long inspired me. In these challenging times, movies have the ability to open our hearts and minds to stories that reflect our shared humanity, and to perspectives that remind us of both our fragility and our resilience. Cinema transcends borders and politics, and affirms the power of imagination to shape a more compassionate world.”

Festival Director Thierry Frémaux added, “A global star, Barbra Streisand is above all an artist, initiating projects that reflect who she is, that are her own and that she shares with the whole world. She is the legendary synthesis between Broadway and Hollywood, between the music hall stage and the big screen. Hearing her sing and seeing her perform are part of our best years.”

Iris Knobloch, President of the Festival de Cannes, also remarked, “This year, we were keen to pay tribute to an artist who made her mark through the power of her art and her uncompromising pursuit of freedom. As a woman, I am delighted to be able to express our admiration for this consummate creator and courageous citizen, whose example stands the test of time and continues to inspire.”

A two-time Oscar winner, 10-time Grammy Award winner, four-time Primetime Emmy Award winner, and special Tony Award recipient, Streisand is best known for her roles in “Funny Girl,” “Hello, Dolly!,” “The Way We Were,” “Nuts,” and the 1976 adaptation of“A Star is Born.” As a filmmaker, she starred in and directed “Yentl,” “The Prince of Tides,” and “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” She has never had a film screen in competition or outside the festival.

Streisand is rumored to be performing at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday as part of a tribute to longtime friend Robert Redford.

The 2026 Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 12 to 23. Look for complete coverage on la Croisette from The Playlist.
