Benedict Cumberbatch Confirms 'Doctor Strange' For 'Avengers: Infinity War,' Russos Say The War Is Just Starting

As sure as the sky is blue and water is wet, this news probably won’t be too Earth shaking for anyone familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s interconnected qualities. If “Captain America: Civil War” gathered together pretty much every character under the sun, except for Thor and Hulk, then you can bet the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War” will do the same.

In the latest print edition of Empire (via ScreenRant), Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed that Doctor Stranger will indeed wave his wand (or whatever that character does) in the upcoming blockbuster because, obviously. “To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter… So watch this space to see how that unfolds,” the actor said.

For now, what will bring together the currently fractured Avengers remains to be seen, but directors Joe and Anthony Russo say the battle between Iron Man and Captain America isn’t over just yet.

“We always thought of [‘Civil War’] as the start of the war. It’s not over yet,” they told Quora (via ComicBookMovie). “At the end of ‘Civil War’ Cap drops his shield because Tony tells him he doesn’t deserve it any longer, and perhaps he doesn’t. His responsibility to himself is now in conflict with his responsibility to others, and he will struggle to resolve that. His road forward involves figuring out who Steve Rogers is without the shield.”

Meanwhile, Stan Lee has banked cameos for a handful of future projects, in case you were worried that tradition might be ending.

“A couple of months ago in Atlanta, he flew down and we shot four in one day – for four various projects,” Kevin Feige recently said. “They’re all awesome! They’re all totally different. And he was unbelievable. He was on fire. He came in, he sat here, he stood there, he stood in this window, and then he went home.”
