Got a Tip?

‘Birdman’ & ‘Breaking Bad’ Win Big At 2015 PGA Awards

BirdmanIs the Oscar tide turning away from "Boyhood" and toward "Birdman"? That’s what the prognosticators are pondering this morning, waking up to the results of the 2015 Producers Guild Awards, handed out last night.

Richard Linklater‘s coming-of-age film was beat out by "Birdman" for Best Picture, muddying the waters of any frontrunner status afforded to "Boyhood." As Indiewire points out, while "Birdman" does lead "Boyhood" in Oscar nominations nine to six, most of those are in tech categories, which tend to be more producer friendly. So essentially, nothing is certain and the conversation will change tonight when the SAG awards are handed out. So by Monday, we could see "Birdman" emerging in the pole position or…things will be less certain if the awards tonight go elsewhere.

Meanwhile, in the television categories, "Breaking Bad," "Fargo," and "Orange Is The New Black" won big with the only surprise being that "True Detective" went away empty-handed, defeated by Walter White and his crew.
