Actors Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek are heading to the future with Mike Cahill‘s, Amazon and Endgame Entertainment vehicle, “Bliss.” The project began principal photography in Los Angeles and Croatia this week with shooting and post-production scheduled for the next few months. Cahill’s latest is a science fiction drama written by the filmmaker with Endgame Entertainment’s James D. Stern producing and Lucas Smith serving as executive producer. Marsha Swinton (“Hala) will also executive produce.

Cahill is known for directing 2011’s “Another Earth” and 2014’s “I Origins.” On the production, the filmmaker had nothing but excitement, sharing the enthusiasm he has for the cast, their working relationship, and the craftsmanship that will be taken with the film. “Working with this brilliant cast is a dream come true,” Cahill said. “Working with my dear friend and producer extraordinaire Jim Stern is a gift.  And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be making this with Amazon Studios. As the industry continues to evolve, Amazon proves to be taking the most exciting risks on films with ambitious artistic goals that also aim to reach wide audiences. I feel so grateful to have our film “Bliss” included among their next round of groundbreaking works.”

The filmmaker is in very good company working with previous collaborators including director of photography Markus Förderer and editor Troy Takaki, both of whom worked with Cahill on “I Origins.” Also joining the team in production design is Kasra Farahani part of the team who previously brought the Oscar-winning “Black Panther” to life.

“It is an incredible opportunity to be working with a visionary like Mike Cahill,” said Stern. “We pride ourselves at Endgame on working with filmmakers with a passion for storytelling and connecting with global audiences, and are looking forward to sharing ‘Bliss’ with the world.” Hopefully “Bliss” will be the vehicle that puts a spotlight on Hayek, Wilson, and Cahill.

The official synopsis, provided by Amazon, reads “A mind-bending love story… Recently divorced Greg (Wilson) whose life is falling apart meets the enchanting Isabel (Hayek), a woman who lives on the streets and is convinced that the polluted, broken world around them is not real. She believes they are living in an ugly, harsh world simulation inside of the beautiful, peaceful “real” world of bliss.  Doubtful at first, Greg eventually discovers there may be some truth to Isabel’s wild conspiracy theory.
