'Book Of Clarence': Benedict Cumberbatch, David Oyelowo, James McAvoy, Alfre Woodard & More Join Jeymes Samuel's Biblical Story

Filmmaker Jeymes Samuel exploded on the scene last year with the release of his star-studded Western, “The Harder They Fall.” The film might have served as his feature directorial debut, but Samuel is no stranger to the world of art, having a long career in music as the artist known as The Bullitts. Now, as an established filmmaker, Samuel is hoping his next film, “The Book of Clarence,” continues his rise in the world of film. If the sheer number of incredible actors signing on is any indication, that’s exactly what will happen.

According to THR, RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste are the latest actors to join the cast for Jeymes Samuel’s “The Book of Clarence.” The film is set in the Bible era and follows the title character, Clarence (LaKeith Stanfield), as he attempts to capitalize on the fame of the Messiah for his own gain.

In addition to the incredible ensemble of actors listed above, ‘Clarence’ is also going to feature folks such as Caleb McLaughlin, Teyana Taylor, Babs Olusanmokun, Eric Kofi Abrefa, Nicholas Pinnock, Micheal Ward, Chase Dillon, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor

Judging by “The Harder They Fall” and everything we know about “The Book of Clarence,” it’s clear that Samuel has no interest in playing it safe with his film career. He’s taking big swings with huge ensemble casts and ambitious stories. It’s exciting because Samuel seems to be the type of artist able to create something interesting and unique, if not completely awesome.

A release date for “The Book of Clarence” is unknown at this time. We do know that the film is being produced by Legendary, as part of the studio’s recently completed deal with Sony Pictures
