'Bridgerton' Trailer: 'Grey's Anatomy' Creator Debuts On Netflix With Period Drama Coming This Christmas

Over the last couple of years, Netflix has lured a number of creators into exclusive (and massive) deals with its platform. One of the most prominent people on that list is Shonda Rhimes, who previously churned out hit after hit for ABC. But Shondaland’s ABC reign is now over at begins at Netflix with the trailer for the upcoming period drama “Bridgerton.”

The upcoming show looks to be quite the departure for Shondaland. Inspired by the Julia Quinn books by the same name, “Bridgerton” follows British teen Daphne, as she prepares to enter London’s “competitive marriage market.” None of her prospects work out and her reputation is tarnished by the mysterious Lady Whistledown. The Duke of Hastings agrees to enter a fake courtship with Daphne in order to help her save face. But, as these things go, the two start to develop a real attraction toward one another.

At the heart of the show is the powerful Bridgerton family. Comprised of eight close-knit siblings, this funny, witty, daring and clever group must navigate the upper ten thousand’s marriage mart in search of romance, adventure and love.

The series stars Phoebe Dynevor (“Younger“), Julie Andrews (“The Sound of Music“), Regé-Jean Page (“For the People“), Jonathan Bailey (“Broadchurch“) and Nicola Coughlan (“Derry Girls“). Rhimes acts as one of the three executive producers for the Netflix show.
