'Captain America' Codenamed 'Frostbite' & A 'Battleship' Synopsis Revealed

The “Captain America” synopsis has been making the rounds today, even though as far as those things go, it’s terribly vague. That said, everyone seems to be printing it, but we thought we’d try and give a bit more context if possible. We also found the first cobbled-together official “Battleship” synopsis after the poorly managed leak last fall of the villains. All this info comes from the latest print edition of Production Weekly, which someone was kind enough to pass on.

“Captain America”

The Captain America synopsis, frankly, doesn’t reveal much. It seems more like a bio of Steve Rogers than anything else, and it certainly doesn’t mention any villains for secondary characters. Director Joe Johnston revealed more about the film back in January when he said it would be a period based film with, “modern, present-day bookends on it” that gets more into the psychology and emotional center that the transformation has on Rogers. None of that sort of stuff is below, but read on. Btw, the one interesting tidbit in the Production Weekly doc is that the film apparently has been codenamed “Frostbite” so nerds, make of it what you will:

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by “vita-rays.” Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

“Battleship”

A bad idea from the get go, a synopsis for Peter Berg’s “Battleship” has arrived and confirms the alien subplot and follows up on our guess that the conflict of the story would be a misunderstanding between humans and aliens after Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner downplayed the villain angle. At the very least, this isn’t planned for 3D (yet). Jeremy Renner is also circling a role, but after he (hopefully) wins the Best Actor Oscar on Sunday, we hope he comes to his senses (and or comes to those senses when he loses too):

A contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle against an alien race is known as The Regents. They come from a world similar to ours, and aren’t actually looking to take over humanity or the planet Earth. Instead, they’re on a mission to build a power source in the ocean, which is where they come in contact with a navy fleet. The film will also show us both sides of the story — from the aliens’ perspective, as well as the humans.

So essentially Clint Eastwood’s two WWII films only with lazer blasters, crazy water tentacled creatures and what not?

So there you have it, both big tentpoles have been fleshed out a bit more, but with little in the way of characters or actual plotlines, While we’re sure this will provide much fodder in certain quarters, we’re going to keep our speculation to a minimum for now.
