'Rocky' Actor Carl Weathers Reportedly Joins The Cast Of Upcoming 'Star Wars' TV Series 'The Mandalorian'

Carl Weathers is an actor that doesn’t really seem like your typical sci-fi/fantasy pick. Perhaps best known for his role of Apollo Creed in the ‘Rocky’ franchise, as well as the incredible “son of a bitch” Dillon in “Predator,” Weathers is the type of macho action star that was big in the ‘80s. Now, it appears that the actor is turning in his boxing gloves for a blaster and cool armor for the upcoming live-action “Star Wars” TV series “The Mandalorian.”

This latest casting rumor comes courtesy of the Making Star Wars podcast, which says that Weathers will appear in the upcoming Disney+ streaming series in a supporting role. As with anything “Star Wars,” details are scarce, but if true (and Making Star Wars has a decent enough track record), the actor could be the latest actor to join the galaxy far, far away.

For those that don’t know about the upcoming series “The Mandalorian,” writer-producer Jon Favreau is spearheading a new live-action series for Disney’s streaming service that follows a “lone gunfighter” in the other reaches of the galaxy. The series is said to take place after the fall of the Empire, but before the emergence of the First Order, placing it between ‘Return of the Jedi’ and ‘The Force Awakens.’ “The Mandalorian” refers to a member of the population of Mandalore, which includes Jango and Boba Fett.

“The Mandalorian” has an incredible group of all-star directors attached to the series including Taika Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok”), Dave Filoni (“Star Wars: The Clone Wars”), Rick Famuyiwa (“Dope”), Deborah Chow (“Mr. Robot”), and Bryce Dallas Howard, the actress making her major directorial debut.

There’s no release date for “The Mandalorian,” but Disney+ is scheduled to be launched in late-2019. So, we still have quite a bit of a wait before we see Apollo Creed officially join the Lucasfilm family.
