Charlie Cox "Very Saddened" By 'Daredevil' Cancellation & Talks Possible Future

It’s been a week or so since we’ve found out that Netflix parted ways with their hit (and yes, it was a hit) Marvel superhero show “Daredevil.” And there has been speculation about what the actual reason is behind the cancellation. But what there hasn’t been is any talk from star Charlie Cox. That is until today.

Speaking to EW, Cox talked about the sudden axing, and why he’s understandably bummed by the state of affairs.

“A lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did,” he said. “The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I’m very saddened by that.”

“It’s just how business works,” he adds. “But also, these characters mean a lot to people. It’s weird to think there’s a chance I won’t be playing Matt Murdock ever again. That’s a bizarre feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years.”

As you might imagine, this isn’t a great time in the life of Cox, who is clearly not happy with the latest turn of events. But he is also reminiscing about how great that time of his life was, playing the superhero.

“I loved it. It’s been just the most incredible job for me. It’s so fun to do. You get to do all the acting obviously, which is great, but then there’s also this really fun physical aspect to it with all the stunts and the fight choreography,” Cox said.

Now, the question remains about what is next for Cox and Daredevil. Will Disney revived the series for its Disney+ streaming service? Will they reboot the character with new actors? That’s a question we probably won’t get an answer about for a while. But one thing is for sure, if Disney calls, Cox will answer.

“Oh my God, yeah,” he said. “I don’t know how this would happen, but maybe one day we could pick up the baton and do it again.”

As is evident with the outcry over this cancellation, it’s obvious that fans would be elated for Cox to suit up again. We’ll just have to wait and see if that’s in the cards or not. At this time, it just looks like fans will have to be happy with the three-and-a-half (we count “The Defenders” as half) seasons of “Daredevil.”
