'Coming 2 America' First Look: Eddie Murphy Returns To Queens In Pictures From Amazon's Highly-Anticipated Sequel

Prince Akeem is now King Akeem. However, the more things change, the more they stay the same in the upcoming comedy sequel, “Coming 2 America.” Because as seen in the first-look pictures, the sequel looks an awful lot like the original 1988 film.

Eddie Murphy wears multiple hats, err, crowns in “Coming 2 America,” the new sequel that sees his Akeem character from the original now becoming King of Zamunda but having to once again go to the US for an adventure in Queens, New York. And while he’s there, he meets up with some old friends, such as the gentlemen from the barbershop that provided tons of laughs in the original film. If you’re a fan of the original comedy, there’s no way you can look at these new photos and not smile like you just watched a special performance from Randy Watson and Sexual Chocolate. (That boy’s good!)

Joining Murphy in the cast are Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, with Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones. Also starring John Amos, Teyana Taylor, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Paul Bates, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Bella Murphy. The film is directed by Craig Brewer, who recently worked with Murphy on the acclaimed comedy, “Dolemite is My Name!

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi(Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.
