Yesterday, movie and music fans got a nice surprise when M83‘s “StarWaves” from the upcoming soundtrack to the sci-fi film “Oblivion” landed online. Now, twenty-four hours later, the full tracklisting has been revealed, and make no mistake, Anthony Gonzalez has ditched the more flowerly song titles from his albums, for names that definitely reflect Joseph Kosinski‘s movie. Spoilers ahead?
For his first major movie scoring job, M83 was assisted by “TRON: Uprising” and “The Raid” composer Joseph Trapanese. And it seems Gonzalez had to do some adjustments from his original vision, but ultimately, he’s pleased with what he put together. “Scoring the film was a true enjoyment,” he said. “It involved lots of stress, lots of sweat, and lots of hard work, but in the end, the soundtrack serves the movie very well. It really is a great Hollywood soundtrack. Oblivion is a big film with a big sound and a big orchestra, and while the soundtrack is different from my original idea, in the end I am very proud of it. I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this journey.”
The soundtrack will be available on April 9th with the movie following on April 19th.
