‘Dickinson’ Trailer: Apple TV+ Takes A Comedic Approach To The Life Of The Legendary Poet

One of the more perplexing series announcements that came with Apple TV+ is the new comedy “Dickinson.” Starring Hailee Steinfeld, the show follows the life of Emily Dickinson, which has already recently been told in “A Quiet Passion” and “Wild Nights With Emily.” This new take, though, seems more in the vein of young adult fare like “Riverdale” instead of alongside those more typical period pieces. With the formidable comedic chops of  Steinfeld, though, the show could prove to be one of Apple TV+’s funnier offerings.

Dickinson’s life has always been shrouded in secrecy due to her own reclusion, but the recent uptick in movies and TV shows is due in part to speculations on her life and sexuality. The new show will follow Emily Dickinson at the portion of her life where she was at her most optimistic and rebellious, before the years of seclusion that defined her public image.

“Dickinson” should buoy the overall tone of Apple’s initial programming, as many of the key shows appear to be on the more dramatic side. The lighter fare has a chance to stand out among the likes of “See,” “The Morning Show,” and “Truth Be Told.”

Created by Alena Smith (“The Newsroom”), the series also stars Jane Krakowski, Toby Huss, Anna Baryshnikov, and Ella Hunt. “Dickinson” is one of a handful of shows that Apple announced will be on its service upon launch. The Apple TV+ launch date is November 1.
