Fox Re-Imagines ‘Die Hard’ As A Lovable Christmas Romp In New Holiday Trailer

Christmas is a time for family – bringing everyone together to laugh, share stories, give gifts, and most importantly, watch classic Christmas films. And though it’s been debated for decades, it’s this writer’s humble opinion that “Die Hard” is probably the best Christmas film of all time. Eat it, “It’s a Wonderful Life!” And luckily, Fox agrees with me, and has released a special holiday-themed trailer for the classic film that’s celebrating its 30th Christmas this year.

The funny new trailer paints “Die Hard” as the “greatest Christmas story ever told,” and you know what? The studio is absolutely right. The facts are simple. The Bruce Willis action film features a story revolving around a man trying to earn the respect and love of his family, which is a Christmas movie staple. “Die Hard” features plenty of Christmas-themed jokes, perhaps most famous of all, the “Ho Ho Ho” sweatshirt scene. Kidding aside, “Die Hard” is a classic action film that created a whole genre of its own. For the last 30 years, there have been movies regularly hitting theaters that can be described as “‘Die Hard’ on a…”

Fox has released this trailer to help promote a special Christmas-themed 30th anniversary release of the film. This probably makes the 10th or so “special edition” of the film released on Blu-ray, but let’s be real, no studio is going to pass up the opportunity for some quick money during the holiday season.

The studio even released a version of the classic “Twas the Night Before Christmas” but “Die Hard”-themed:

‘Twas the night before Christmas, at Nakatomi Plaza,
The office party was festive, but soon interrupted by drama.
Hans Gruber and his men, had forced their way in,
And taken everyone hostage, trapping them within.
But how could they know, there was a cop up above,
John McClane had arrived, to win back his wife’s love.
He would take them all out, winning everyone’s praise,
Welcoming Christmas Day, with his favorite catchphrase.
