For years now, folks in Hollywood have been desperately trying to make a new “Scarface” film. Directors have come and gone. Scripts have been written and rewritten. And apparently, actors have been attached and then removed. In the latter case, that includes the most recent man to have his name mentioned in the lead role of a potential remake, Diego Luna.
According to a new interview with Collider, Diego Luna, who has been attached to the “Scarface” remake that has been in development for a long time now, confirmed that he would not be starring in the film, if/when it ever gets made.

When asked if he was still attached to the film, Luna simply stated, “No, no I’m not.”
This seems to coalesce with the most recent news about the film, where director Antoine Fuqua hinted that he is searching for a lead actor to take over the role and opined that he couldn’t get Denzel Washington to star.
As a reader of this website, you’re likely familiar with the history of “Scarface,” with most people remembering the 1983 film led by actor Al Pacino. Of course, that film itself is a remake of the 1932 film directed by Howard Hawks. Both versions of the film follow the story of an unlikely criminal that slowly and violently takes control over a city’s criminal underbelly. Obviously, if a third “Scarface” is made, it would most likely follow a similar plot.
No word on whether or not “Scarface” is still in active development. But Diego is already very busy, as he’s soon to be seen in the new season of “Narcos: Mexico,” as well as the eventual “Cassian Andor” series that’s expected to show up on Disney+ in the future.
