Directors: Brad Anderson, Patty Jenkins & Jon M. Chu Gear Up New Projects

nullThe Machinist” director Brad Anderson has signed up to helm Sony’s “Bourne-esque spy tale” (aren’t they all?) “Shadow Run,” according to Deadline. The script, written by “Cliffhanger” writer Joe Gazzam, was the subject a frenzied bidding war earlier this year and is being kept under tight wraps with no plot details revealed yet. Truth be told, an action thriller isn’t too much of a stretch for Anderson’s sensibilities, since his filmography has trended towards genre fare with films like “Session 9” and “Vanishing on 7th Street.” If anything, at least “Shadow Run” has a bigger potential to actually reach audiences, as opposed to his latest output, “Stonehearst Asylum,” which saw release last month unbeknownst to anyone. Here’s hoping the next one washes away the stink of Anderson’s Halle Berry-starring “The Call.”

Jon M. Chu, who has made dance ("Step Up 2: The Streets") and action ("G.I. Joe: Retaliation") movies his bread and butter, is keeping it musical for "Can’t Touch This." Deadline reports that he’ll co-produce the ’90s-set "high school dance comedy." Annie Mebane and Steve Basilone ("Community," "Happy Endings") are penning the script, and this better at least have a killer soundtrack.

Patty Jenkins is no stranger to the studio system, having been chewed up and spit out during her short-lived stint on “Thor: The Dark World,” but it’s looks she’ll have another proper shot at the brass ring, according to THR. The trade reports the “Monster” director will helm an English-language remake of the 2011 Norwegian action comedy “Jackpot” for Focus Features. The logline is this: four shady men win the big jackpot of sports pool but can’t decide how to split up the winnings, leading to an escalating chain of events that will lead to death. “Godzilla” co-writer David Callahan will pen the remake’s script.
