You've just seen 20th Century Fox start to fill their 2014 slate and make some 2013 release date moves as well. Dreamworks & Disney's Steven Spielberg collaboration "Robopocalypse" just got pushed back an entire year (it hasn't started shooting yet) and now it's time for the Buena Vista/Disney mothership to make some adjustments of their own.
Originally scheduled for a May 31, 2013 release, Disney has now pushed back Gore Verbinski's "Lone Ranger" starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp almost two months to Independence Day weekend in 2013. July 3, 2013 to be exact. The film will now face off against Universal's “Despicable Me 2” and Fox’s “Independence Day” re-release now in 3D. May 31, 2013 is now completely wide open, but no one likes to follow the Memorial Day weekend, which next year boasts “The Hangover Part III,” and “Fast & Furious 6." This is likely why the studio made the move, Also, will droves come out to see Will Smith destroy aliens again, only in 3D this time? But the move does come moments after former Warner Bros. chief Alan Horn was tapped to head the House of Mouse, so maybe Horn knows something you or I don't.
Disney’s next move is a minor one. They’ve adjusted the date of “Thor 2” from November 15, 2013, to a week earlier on November 8th. Its only competition so far will be Sony’s “One Direction Concert Movie,” but don’t laugh too much, the kids frickin’ love that boy band. Any guesses on what new hero will be introduced in the "Thor 2" easter egg sequence? Presuming that's the case anyhow…[Box Office Mojo]
