'Dune': Denis Villeneuve Shares A New Picture From An Action Scene That He's "Pretty Proud Of"

At the beginning of the year, many people put Denis Villeneuve’sDune” at the top of their most anticipated films list. Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic moving a number of films into 2021, “Dune” has not only continued to be one of the must-see films of 2020 but maybe the biggest film left on the schedule.

And with the film a little more than seven months from hitting theaters, Villeneuve is still sharing more about his sci-fi epic. Speaking to Empire, the filmmaker shared a picture from the film, showing Josh Brolin and Timothée Chalamet flying over the planet of Arrakis and coming close to the mysterious desert land.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Chalamet plays Paul Atreides, the young son of Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) who joins his father and mother as the new rulers of the planet of Arrakis, aka Dune. And while on the planet, the young boy finds himself drawn to the desert lands, feeling as if he was always meant to be there, in a terrain that is notoriously deadly, infested with building-size killer sandworms. In the new picture, we see Paul and his weapons trainer Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) venturing out into the deep desert.

“It’s Paul’s first contact with the deep desert, where he’s mesmerized by it,” Villeneuve said. “He has a strange feeling of being home. There’s a lot of action at this specific moment, and [it’s] one of the scenes in the movie that I’m starting to get pretty proud of.”

Previously, Villeneuve had described the making of “Dune” as the most difficult film project he’s ever worked on, and it’s clear from his most recent comment above that he’s happy with the end result. Or at least, he’s “starting” to get happy with it.
