Elisabeth Moss In Negotiations To Star In Blumhouse's 'The Invisible Man'

We are one step closer to Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions officially clearing out the stench of death that was permeating Universal’s Dark Universe franchise. A little over a month ago, it was announced that Universal and Blumhouse had reached an agreement for the latter production company to reboot one of the studio’s most famous Monsters, in a new version of “The Invisible Man.” And thanks to Variety, it appears like we know who might be one of the leads in the cast.

According to the outlet, “The Handmaid’s Tale” star Elisabeth Moss is in early negotiations to star in Blumhouse’s ‘Invisible Man’ reboot. While we still don’t know an official plot, other than the fact that it’s based on the classic Universal Monster film, it is known that writer/director Leigh Whannel, who surprised people with last year’s “Upgrade,” is at the helm to spearhead this reimagining.

Moss has been very busy recently, even starring in an upcoming horror film from Jordan Peele, titled “Us.” Of course, she’s probably best known for ‘Handmaid’s’ but is also set to appear in the upcoming film “Her Smell” from filmmaker Alex Ross Perry.

As mentioned, Blumhouse’s “The Invisible Man” is the first project in an agreement between the company and Universal after the studio’s attempt to combine its Universal Monsters brand into one interconnected franchise crashed hard, thanks in no small part to Tom Cruise’sThe Mummy” stinking up theaters in 2017.

There was a previous version of “The Invisible Man” being worked on as part of this Dark Universe initiative. That project would have starred Johnny Depp as the titular character. However, after “The Mummy” bombed, and probably exacerbated by Depp’s off-screen drama, “The Invisible Man” fell apart. It’s being reported that Depp won’t have any role in this new version from Blumhouse.
