Well, it looks like composer and musician Labrinth, known for their work on the HBO series “Euphoria,” has announced on social media an abrupt exit from the “industry” while also cussing out the show directly alongside Columbia Records being another target of their ire. If you weren’t aware, they were brought back for the third season and confirmed for a return last summer.
That original post has since been deleted, but was picked up by folks like Variety and Entertainment Weekly, who had mentioned that Labrinth was “done with this industry” and posting further sentiments that they’re done working on the show.
“I’m done with this industry. F*** Columbia. Double f*** ‘Euphoria.’ I’m out. Thank you and good night x,” Labrinth said in a now-deleted post from Instagram, seemingly harkening back to the classic Dave Chappelle stoner comedy “Half Baked” scene where a main character nicknamed Scarface quits his mundane fast-food job epically.

Interestingly enough, Labrinth would see some major help from veteran Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer on Season 3 of “Euphoria” after that announcement from July. So we’re a little in the dark for the reasoning (could there have been creative differences with creator/showrunner Sam Levinson or Zimmer?) of the post, and if they’re truly exiting the world of composing and music, so there seems to be more than just simple show drama.
At the time, Labrinth had nothing but kind words for reuniting with Levison and collaborating with Zimmer on the new season, stating, “Another chapter in the Euphoria universe! So great to join Hans, one of my heroes in film score, and bring some new magic to this new season. Love x.” What soured them on the project is up to our imaginations, but it’s not like Levinson hasn’t been without controversy, and a behind-the-scenes dust-up isn’t hard to picture.
“Cosmic Opera Act 1,” Labrinth’s new album that was released in January by Columbia Records, which also took hits from the artist. What the issues are is just as unclear; could they be connected?
Labrinth’s contributions to “Euphoria” led to an Emmy win back in 2020 for Outstanding Original Music & Lyrics, and it’s unclear if their exit will have an impact, if any, on the third season’s release on April 12 (we assume that the music will be completed in time, unless HBO says otherwise).
We don’t think this is the end of the story, just beginning, so we’ll have to wait to learn more about the public crash out from Labrinth and if it’s warranted.
