It might be the first show to do so, but it certainly won’t be the last. Due to production being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, FX Networks has decided to push the premiere date of “Fargo” season four to later in 2020. The move takes the highly anticipated limited series out of 2020 Emmy contention.

Noah Hawley’s latest incarnation of “Fargo” is mostly set in 1950 Kansas City, Missouri and stars Chris Rock, Jessie Buckley, Jason Shwartzman, Ben Whishaw, Jack Huston and Timothy Olyphant, among others. Production was halted in Chicago with two episodes left to film. It was set to premiere on April 19. The last season, the show’s third, ran from April 19-June 21, 2017.
“Fargo” is not the only series that was hoping to make the May 31, 2020, Emmy deadline that stopped shooting over the weekend. Another FX series, “Atlanta,” was set to return sometime in May and NatGeo still has “Genius: Aretha” set for May 25 debut. It’s unclear if the second season of Hulu’s “Pen15” would premiere in time to qualify.
The winner of the limited series Primetime Emmy Award in 2014, “Fargo” has earned 22 nominations overall. Its only other win, however, was for Colin Bucksey’s directorial efforts during the first season. This year’s limited series race is expected to be quite competitive with “Watchmen,” “Unbelievable,” “Mrs. America,” “The Plot Against America” and “Little Fires Everywhere” all in the mix.
