Got a Tip?

Fiona Apple Has Written A New Song For Judd Apatow’s ‘This Is 40’

nullThough at 35 years old, Fiona Apple has yet to grapple with turning the big four zero, she has certainly channeled her fair share of pain through her songs. And undoubtedly some of that will come through in her contribution to the soundtrack of Judd Apatow's upcoming "This Is 40."

The musician has penned a brand new song, "Dull Tool," for the movie, which puts her in Best Original Song contention should the song and movie pick up that kind of steam. It's the first time an artist has written a new song for an Apatow flick, but the choice isn't so left field. Apple's "Paper Bag" was in the Apatow produced "Bridesmaids," but perhaps more crucial, the film's composer Jon Brion produced her albums When The Pawn… as well as a widely bootlegged version of her album Extraordinary Machine. Depending on who you ask, either the label didn't like it or Apple didn't, but it never saw official release with Apple going on to re-record most of the songs for the disc that eventually hit stores. So our question is: did Brion produce her new track? We certainly hope so.

More soundtrack details are likely around the corner, and this one will be packed with music. The recently released script reveals songs by The Pixies and A-Ha are in the film, Brit rocker Graham Walsh makes an apperance, and the reunion of The Rumor are also a part the plot. Much more to come we're sure before "This Is 40" opens on December 21st. [The Huffington Post/Rolling Stone]
