First Look At Benedict Cumberbatch In ‘The Imitation Game’ Calculates The Drama

The Imitation Game

Mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst, computer scientist — Alan Turing was nothing short of a genius, a key figure in World War II, and one who was tragically persecuted for his sexuality. But a posthumous, cinematic appreciation of his life and contributions is on the way with the biopic “The Imitation Game” and the first image from the movie has arrived.

Based on the biography “Alan Turing: The Enigma,” and directed by Morten Tyldum (“Headhunters“), the movie will chronicle the life of the English multi-hyphenate who, in addition to his wartime achievements, helped advance modern technology with his explorations into early computer design. The film will also tell the story of his criminal conviction for homosexuality, which led to him losing his job, being chemically castrated with female hormones and eventually killing himself with cyanide at the age of 41. (Queen Elizabeth pardoned that conviction this week).

Co-starring Keira Knightley, and featuring a score by Clint Mansell, there is no release date or distributor yet for the film, but expect this one to drop in 2014.
