After “Dogtooth” and “Alps,” we’re pretty much ready for whatever Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos has ready to throw at us next, and it looks like he has a doozy coming our way. He’s managed to round up an all-star cast for his next effort “The Lobster,” but the story, as always, is anything but conventional.
Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, Olivia Colman, Ariane Labed and Angeliki Papoulia are all aboard the film, which takes place in a dystopian future where single people are arrested and forced to find a mate in 45 days. If they don’t find one, they can either be transformed into an animal of their choosing or get released into the woods. So yes, totally bonkers and totally awesome. Filming has now wrapped and Screen Daily has the first look at the film, and it would seem that in the future, everyone dresses like nerdy bankers. Hell, we nearly didn’t recognize Colin Farrell in that pic above.
No word yet on U.S. distribution but with the movie in the can, could a fall festival premiere be around the corner? Fingers crossed.
