‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Trailer: All The Classic Ghostbusters Assemble

It seems that being afraid of no ghosts can literally save your life in the fifth and latest entry in the Ghostbusters franchise, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.” The movie is a direct sequel to 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” which very famously handed the series “back to the fans,”   and is helmed by Gil Kenan, co-writer of  ‘Afterlife’ and director of “Monster House,” with a script from Kenan and Jason Reitman (“Juno,” “Up in the Air”).

“Frozen Empire” catches up with the descendants of deceased original Ghostbuster, Egon Spengler, his daughter Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon, “The Leftovers,” “The Gilded Age”), and her children Trevor (Finn Wolfhard, “Stranger Things”) and Phoebe (McKenna Grace, Captain Marvel) have relocated to New York City alongside Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd). Having teamed up with the other Ghostbusters (Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson), they are forced to contend with a new supernatural threat. Residents of New York City are freezing to death in the middle of July due to what is referred to as “The Death Chill.” “The Death Chill” is, as explained by Aykroyd and newcomer Patton Oswalt, a supernatural force that latches onto a person’s fear and turns their insides into ice.

“Frozen Empire” promises a chilling good time, with a tone and approach to the material that, according to a tweet by cast member Kumail Nanjiani, was inspired by the 1986-1991 animated TV show “The Real Ghostbusters.”

Here is the official synopsis:

In “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the Spengler family returns to where it all started- the iconic New York City firehouse- to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes evil forces, Ghostbusters, new and old, must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

The film is scheduled for a wide release on March 22, 2024, a week up from its original date.
