'Breaking Bad' Creator Vince Gilligan Tells SDCC Crowd Walter White Will Be Coming To 'Better Call Saul'

We knew it would happen eventually. But finally, after three great seasons, it appears that the upcoming fourth season of AMC’s critically-acclaimed hit show “Better Call Saul” is going to start to bump up against the networks former critically-acclaimed hit show “Breaking Bad.”

Since this year marks the 10th anniversary of “Breaking Bad,” the cast and crew got together to do a little press, which included an interview with EW and a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. During these appearances, ‘Saul’ and ‘Bad’ creator Vince Gilligan finally gave the fans what they’ve been anticipating. We now have confirmation that Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from “Breaking Bad” will eventually show up in ‘Saul.’ We just don’t know when.

“We don’t want to jerk folks around,” Gilligan said at SDCC (via AP). “But we would be sorely remiss if these characters didn’t appear in the show before it ended.”

As for whether or not actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are down to come back to their beloved characters, it sounds like it’s a done deal. “I miss you all, I miss the show,” Aaron Paul said.

The real question is how it’s going to happen. As you probably know, “Better Call Saul” is a spin-off/prequel to “Breaking Bad” focusing on the sleazy lawyer character of Saul Goodman. Well, as far as the “why” and the “how,” Gilligan hints that the upcoming season 4 will definitely give some clues.

“We have a subplot that very squarely gets into ‘Breaking Bad’ territory and brings us into the world — or at least points us on a path toward the world of Walter White and the territory of Walter White,” Gilligan tells EW. “I can’t wait for folks to see that.”

And when it does happen, Gilligan promises that it’s not going to a be a nod and wink to the viewer. The appearances of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman will be more than just cameos for fans. “I think we’ve waited long enough. We damn well better have a good reason for them to show up,” he explains.

For those wanting to see how the worlds of Walter White and Jimmy McGill, aka Saul Goodman, collide on “Better Call Saul,” season 4 begins August 6.
