'The Grudge' NSFW Trailer: Andrea Riseborough Is Not Prepared For What She Sees In This Disturbing Clip

Director Nicolas Pesce’s upcoming horror film “The Grudge” is very difficult to pin down. Perhaps it can best be described as a reboot/sequel to a popular American film franchise from the early-2000s that was, itself, a remake of a popular Japanese horror film series. Or you know, based on the new trailer, you can just say that the upcoming film is just pretty freaking scary.

As seen in the new NSFW trailer for “The Grudge,” the film follows the story of a detective that finds herself left to deal with a vengeful ghost that has cursed a suburban home and is now after her and her young son. But as ordinary as that premise sounds, the new trailer shows that Pesce isn’t sticking to your typical PG-13 jumpscare-filled horror film that seems to dominate the modern era. Instead, he’s not afraid to crank up the tension and suspense, as well as the incredibly horrific and gross imagery.

The sequel, reboot, remake, whatever, stars Andrea Riseborough, who is having a bit of a moment thanks to her star-making performances in indie films “Mandy” and “Nancy.” She stars alongside Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver. As mentioned, “The Grudge” is directed by Pesce, who is one of the best up-and-coming filmmakers, with previous works that include “Piercing” and “The Eyes of My Mother.” Sam Raimi is also on board as a producer.
